This began as an idea to write about abused and neglected dogs that got adopted. It became an article about a man and his organization, Hope For Paws, dedicated to rescuing dogs in need. After you finish reading, you’ll feel good to know that people like this are in our world.
1. Rosie Before
What do you do when you suspect the dog you’re rescuing has puppies hidden somewhere? Eldad Hagar of Hope For Paws cleverly captured a street pit bull he named Rosie by luring her into a cage. Before loading the girl into his car, he suspected and discovered she was lactating. Now what? He couldn’t rescue Rosie and leave behind an unknown number of helpless pups! With a leash around the mother dog, Eldad used his phone to play sounds of crying puppies. Pretty smart, huh? This spurred momma to action and she led Eldad to her five babies who were lovingly loaded into a box and then the whole family got a ride to the hospital.

3. Mylie Before
For months, her home was a trash heap. That’s a dangerous place to live, as you can see by the Mylie’s condition. Hagar fed her some burger and then slipped his leash around her neck. He led Mylie away from her “home” to The Fuzzy Pet Foundation where they began taking care of her many ailments. They also gave her love, something she’d probably never experienced living alone in a dump. Months later, she was adopted.

5. Jordan Before
A group of volunteers from L.A. on Could 9 spotted a sleeping dog in the LA River. He endured unimaginable cruelty before being thrown over the fence to the concrete 30 feet below. He spent two days in inch-deep water living in excruciating pain. Eldad from Hope For Paws arrived and used a ladder to climb down and rescue Jordan. Then the dog spent weeks being treated by people who actually cared about him, finally to be adopted. Now he spends his days playing, eating, and being loved.

7. Cadence Before
A young couple stopped what they were doing to follow an injured pit bull. They trailed her for two hours, then the dog collapsed. Eldad was already en route, and when he arrived, he was able to get a leash on the bloodied bait dog. Obediently and surprisingly, the trusting dog jumped into the car and made herself at home. At the hospital, the rescuers and doctors saw the extent of the poor pooch’s traumatic life. After two surgeries and a ton of love and attention, Cadence left the shelter with one of her saviors…but not before having her wounds unexpectedly licked by another dog.

9. Fiona Before
How do you approach a blind dog who needs help? You let her smell you, and you do it very carefully. That’s what two rescuers did when they found Fiona, a white poodle, hiding in a storage area trash pile. After gaining her trust, the two rescued the pooch and shaved off all of her fur before giving her bath. She had the worst flea infestation they’d ever seen. Speaking of seeing, they brought Fiona to Dr. Michael Chang who was able to restore vision in one eye. Taken blind from a pile of rubbish, Fiona is now living with vision…and with a family.

11. Ricky And Ethel Before
These two had a home until their owner died. With nobody to take care of them, they (and their brother, Fred) were sent to the streets to take care of each other. But they stayed close to the house waiting for their owner to come back. 18 months later, they were rescued. It’s tricky business capturing two dogs who don’t trust you! Both dogs resisted, but that’s because they didn’t know where they were heading…to better times.

13. Julia Before
When a text of a wolf wandering the LA streets reached Hope For Paws, Hagar was not deterred. He and his partner found the dog-wolf hybrid in bad shape. No word on the owner, and no wonder the dog warmed up to the rescuers when they gave her food and a name: Julia. After lots of love and tender care, as well as many therapeutic baths to heal her, Julia did something to warm the heart: she wagged her tail for the first time, and it’s caught on video (below).
